REVIEW

Let me be the first to admit, I love popcorn horror movies and this is definitely one of them. When I say popcorn horror, I mean the template horror movie where a group of teens or young adults die by some curse, monster or any other antagoniser, ghostly or otherwise and in Countdown (2019) tech now is the tool to kill the young ones by means of an app on your phone created by a demon and using a curse so basically.. download the app and it will tell you how long you have to live via a countdown clock then sit back and watch everyone you know start dying.

The app idea is about the only original thing about this movie but like any good popcorn horror you have to see how they stop this curse, what made it and how they defeat it and in that aspect, it delivers.

The movie is definitely entertaining for anyone who feels like getting a few scares and having some fun with it. Not for the true horror fan but still very enjoyasble as you try and guess when the next scare is coming.

The movie is directed by first-timer Justin Dec and it really isn't bad for his first attempt, we look forward to seeing how his career will progress after this. The likelihood of a sequel is extremely great and I base this on the box-office takings alone i.e. the movie was bade on a budget of $6.5 million and made more than $40,921,766.

By the way, look out for the awesome performance of the guy at the cellphone shop, he steals the scenes he appears in with his humoour.

COUNTDOWN (2019) SYNOPSIS

REVIEW

REVIEW
Nice one guys, we had to wait a decade for a sequel! For fans of the original Zombieland (2009), this movie is definitely worth the wait. We see our original unlikely heroes return in this all-new story and with the extra assistance of new additions like Rosario Dawson, Zoey Deutch and Luke Wilson amongst others.

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie, it's exactly what we've been waiting for in a sequel to an originally funny movie and just extends their adventure a little further. The humour flows nicely as does the story but in terms of breaking new ground, the movie does not.

Don't get me wrong the movie is filled with hilarious situations and the fast witted humour and comedy are extremely memorable. There are also new, different zombies, at least 3 by my count who add to new changes in the movie as well but the most memorable part for me has got to be the inclusion of Bill Murray as we see what happens on Day Zero of the zombie apocolypse whilst still making fun of himself for his part in the Garfield movies.

The movie is once again directed by Ruben Fleischer who took up the role in the first Zombieland. With an estimated budget of $42 million the movie saw a a gross of $72,785,288 and a worldwide gross of $121, 026, 085 which definitely made it a success and hopefully this time we may get a third movie and not have to wait a decade for it.

ZOMBIELAND: DOUBLETAP (2019) SYNOPSIS
One long decade after the post-apocalyptic events in Zombieland (2009), the resilient quartet of survivors--the tough-as-nails zombie exterminator, Tallahassee; his rule-making comrade, Columbus; the free-spirited huntress, Wichita, and her younger sister, Little Rock--find themselves in the bosom of a now-derelict White House. However, in a rabid world still overrun by multitudes of walking dead and mutated strains of evolved animated corpses, a premeditated separation will send the team back to square one, searching, once more, for the promised land. Now, all hope rests on Babylon: an entirely organic commune of blissful vegetarian pacifists who love to party. Is this the end of the road?

ULTIMATE REVIEW - THE LIGHTHOUSE (2019) ... A Slow, Unsettling Descent into MADNESS with DAFOE & PATTINSON

THRILLER

The best  way to describe this movie seems limited to words like 'brilliant", "excellent" and the cliched "it's like nothing you've ever seen before" and whilst this isn't a lie, like the movie, I will leave that for you to decide as I attempt to give my lamens opinion on this spectacular movie.

I went in not knowing a thing about the director / writer, Robert Eggers or about the movie because all I saw was Pattinson, Dafoe and the word horror so I dove in and therein lay my mistake. Simply put the movie is about two men who need to maintain a lighthouse in the 1890s for 4 weeks but it's so much more than this.

First off the movie is shot entirely in black and white and if this isn't your thing then don't even bother reading on. The score, very much like the story is relentless in it's pace as we quite possibly are watching how the main characters descend into madness.

Nothing you watch can be taken literally as the time in the movie seems to vanish and we are trying to make sense of reality, fantasy and madness itself. There's so much metaphoric storytelling that you as the viewer are constantly tring to make heads or tails of what you're watching, with old sea tales blended with Greek mythology.

This movie is incredible, from the atmosphere to the actual actors lines. I'm guessing the director wants to take you on this mysterious journey and leave you guessing for years to come, much like im wondering now, about what it is you've actually seen in this movie. From mermaids, storms to even a missing head.

Dafoe once again shows off his brilliance as a versatile actor, I mean the guy's gone from movies such as Finding Nemo to Aquaman to this and that alone shows his wide-ranging acting skills and it's this style that far outweighs his counterpart, Pattinson. Both carry the story masterfully till its final breath and with the closing scene, one is left wondering, "what the hell just happened".

Watch this at your own peril as you will never have closure and perhaps that's also the appeal of the movie. The Lighthouse is not a mainstream movie and will only appeal to those who enjoy a good and solid story and filmaking at its best, it's definitely a rare find. I personally look forward to seeing more from Eggers in the future now that I know what he is capable of.

REVIEWED HARD ... FRIEND REQUEST (2016) ... UNFRIENDING Someone Can Be DEADLY!

REVIEW

Wow this one was enjoyable! Well made story about a popular girl, Laura, who befriends a new girl, who also turns out to be obsessive and evil. The new girl then commits suicide shortly after and Laura's friends start dying off one by one under strange circumstances while videos of their deaths are circulated on social media.

Friend Request or Unfriend borrows elements from a whole range of movies and recycles the material in a somewhat interesting fashion. It's your typical " a group of good looking teens are going to die" horror movie and somehow it never gets stale, and they have derived alot from The Ring's story, so much so that I actually find myself wondering if this comes from an original Japanese tale.

There are quite a few scares and tense moments in this movie and even when you think you've predicted  scares, you're wrong and then when you let your guard down a little, boom, fright! If you love your horrors and your social media then this is definitely one for you.

One last thing, with all the different social media platforms available currently, how long till these horror movies include things like Snapchat, Whatsapp etc. Ths is already the third movie I can think of recently to apply social media as an outlet for danger or evil, the others being Unfriended and the thriller Nerve.

Friend Request (2016) is directed by Simon Verhoeven and stars Alycia Debnam-Carey, William Moseley, Connor Paolo, Brit Morgan, Brooke Markham, Sean Marquette and Liesl Ahlers. The movie was released in certain locations but will be released theatrically on 9 December in the USA.

FRIEND REQUEST (2016) SYNOPSIS
Enjoying college life as a popular student, Laura shares everything with her more
than 800 friends on Facebook. But one day, after accepting a friend request from a
social outcast named Marina, Laura’s life is cursed, and her closest friends begin
dying cruel deaths. Before her time is up, Laura must solve the mystery behind
Marina and her Facebook profile, in order to break the deadly spell.

Who knows when we will ever see this or when this will hit theaters or even DVD also given the fact that its halloween, now is the erfect time to ask Lionsgate WTH dudes??? The movie is drected by Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury and stars Sam Strike, Vanessa Grasse, Jessica Madsen, James Bloor, Sam Coleman, Jessica Madsen, Lilli Taylor, Stephen Dorff, and Finn Jones.

LEATHERFACE SYNOPSIS

SAW: LEGACY (2017) ... OH YES!!! THERE WILL BE BLOOD AND MORE BLOOD! JIGSAW IS BACK!

02:43:00

HORROR

Filming has just started on the 8th installment in the Saw Franchise! Yup that's right, 8 Saw movies spanning almost 2 decades now. I must admit that the original for me will always be the most thrilling and horrific as the mere idea of being trapped in a room with no way out and not knowing why you're in there is enough to make anyone shudder in fear.

Thus far not much has been said of the movie in terms of synopsis but we do have some info regarding the new project. Saw; Legacy (2017) is directed by Michael and Peter Spierig, and written by Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger.

Saw 3D was intended to be the final film in the Saw franchise, with the film being split into two parts. However, Lionsgate Films only allowed the filmmakers to make one more film after Saw VI under-performed at the box office.

According to Saw 3D writers Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton, because of the change, "the big reveal of Dr. Gordon was a bit underserved ... Perhaps creating more questions than answers. There were several ideas we never quite figured out. But I don’t want to say what they were, because you never know what might happen in the future."

In February 2016, it was reported that Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger will write the script. In July 2016, it became known that Michael and Peter Spierig will direct the film. Composer Charlie Clouser described Legacy as a "reinvention" of the Saw franchise, opining "the Spierig brothers can deliver a fresh take on the material that will establish a new story line and new characters that can carry the saga into the future."

So lock your doors and watch out for creepy dolls on tricycles because Saw: Legacy will be hitting theaters around October 2017!
