NEWS - IT'S TIME FOR THE OSCARS.....And The 2020 Academy Awards Host is.... NO ONE?!

20:26:00
•

The 2020 Oscars ceremony in February will again have no host, the head of ABC Television Entertainment said.

“Let me confirm it now. Together with the Academy (of Motion Pictures), we have decided there will be no traditional host again this year (2020),” Karey Burke, president of ABC Entertainment, told television reporters.

The 2019 Oscars was the first in 30 years to have no host and saw the audience on broadcaster ABC rise to 29.6 million Americans, breaking a four-year trend of falling viewership for the live ceremony.

Burke said the decision not to have a host for the 9 February event, the most prestigious awards in the movie business, was prompted by good reviews in 2019, when rock band Queen opened the show with a live performance to celebrate the box office success of the musical “Bohemian Rhapsody.”

Burke said organisers planned on “repeating what worked for us last year; huge entertainment value, big musical numbers, big comedy…A lot of incredible elements have already come together and convinced us that we are going to have an incredibly entertaining show again,” she added, without giving details.

Nominations for the 2020 Oscars will be announced on Monday.

Finding a host for big awards show has become increasingly difficult in recent years. Comedian Kevin Hart pulled out of the 2019 Oscars job after being slammed on social media for homophobic comments he had made in the past. He apologised.

Other comedians, including Ricky Gervais at Sunday’s Golden Globes, have met with criticism for being either too harsh, too political, or too soft in their jokes.

NEWS - TINA FEY & AMY POEHLER INVITED BACK TO HOST 2021 GOLDEN GLOBE AWARDS

19:32:00
•

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler will return to host the Golden Globe Awards for the fourth time in 2021, NBC announced Saturday.

Well, Ricky Gervais did promise never to host the Globes again.

Golden Globe and Emmy winners Fey and Poehler previously hosted the Hollywood Foreign Press Association gala from 2013 to 2015, bringing their longtime rapport and banter to the Globes stage.

The "30 Rock" and "Parks and Recreation" stars, respectively, were first hired to host the Globes in 2013, taking over from Gervais, who hosted the three years before. Earning positive reviews, the popular duo came back to host again twice more.

"Lovely, brilliant and utterly fearless, they made awards-show hosting an art form again, helming three hours of occasionally hilarious, occasionally emotional and surprisingly enjoyable TV," wrote the Los Angeles Times' Mary McNamara of their 2013 performance.

Their return as hosts promises a shift in energy from Gervais' performance at the 77th Golden Globes, widely criticized for its biting nihilism, in which even he joked he'd not be invited back. "You'll be pleased to know this is the last time I'm hosting these awards, so I don't care anymore," he said in his opening monologue.

The announcement was made by NBC Entertainment Chairman Paul Telegdy, during NBC's presentation at the Television Critics Association publicity tour in Pasadena.

"NBC has long been the home to two of the funniest people on the planet- Tina Fey and Amy Poehler - and we didn't want to wait any longer to share the great news that they'll be hosting the Globes once again," Telegdy said in a statement.

Fey and Poehler have ongoing relationships with the network. Fey, with "30 Rock" collaborator Robert Carlock, is co-creator and executive producer of an upcoming comedy series at NBC starring Ted Danson as a businessman running for mayor of Los Angeles.

Poehler, who made a surprise appearance to help break the news of her and Fey's Globes return, also confirmed that "Making It," the NBC crafting competition of which she is executive producer and co-host, will be returning for a third season.

The Globes announcement comes as awards show producers and hosts continue to search for the right approach to emcee duties in the face of steadily declining ratings.

ABC confirmed earlier this week that the Academy Awards telecast on February 9 will go without a host for the second year in a row. According to Nielsen, the 2020 Globes telecast averaged a 4.7 rating among adults 18-49 and drew 18.3 million viewers, down 1.5 per cent from last year.

The 2021 Golden Globes telecast has yet to set a date.
